Local calendar full of art events

For those of you who enjoy seeing examples of award winning, original visual art, there are a number of art exhibits currently open during the following weeks in this area.
The 2008 Annual Texas Watercolor Society Exhibition is now on display in the International Museum of Arts and Sciences (IMAS) in McAllen, Texas. Over fifty works in a variety of watermedia including transparent watercolor, acrylics, tempera and mixed media are presently on display throughout the months of March and April.
Call the IMAS or check the Texas Watercolor Society website for more information. Some members of the Laguna Madre Art League visited this exhibit last week and they highly recommend it.
“Women’s Art: Women’s Vision” is on display Thursday, March 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Friday, March 21 from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon. This is an exhibition in recognition of National Women’s History Month and showcases the artwork of local women.
LMAL member Teresa de la Rosa-Allen says, “This exhibit has beautiful original art works and the college staff has set up a large screen projection system to show additional women’s art. This is the first such show honoring woman artists.”
This exhibit is in El Gran Salon in the Student Union at the University of Texas, Brownsville. The student union is located across from the college bookstore.
The 37th Annual International Art Show Opening Reception is Wednesday, March 26 at 6 p.m. This year’s International Show, with over 100 works of original art, will be on display from March 27 through April 20, 2008 at the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art located at 660 E. Ringgold (across from the Gladys Porter Zoo) in Brownsville. Call 956-942-0941 for tickets to the reception.
