Wildlife expo set to draw crowd

The best ideas sometimes start small.

Port Isabel businessman, and area volunteer Ralph Ayers can attest to that.

Seventeen years ago, he and other members of St. Andrew’s by the Sea Episcopal Church in Port Isabel arranged for local fishing guides to provide an instructional lecture for a group of Winter Texans who were visiting the area during the winter months.

“Some Winter Texans, after church one Sunday, asked us, ‘How to we fish down here? What do we fish for? How do we catch ‘em in this area? Coming from up north, they wanted to know, so we arranged for some fishing guides to meet with them a couple weeks later,” Ayers recalled.
