Rain or shine, warm or cold, the 14th Annual Winter Texan Beach Clean-Up will take place Friday, February 11 on South Padre Island. Monica Vela with the Cameron County Parks Department says that everything is set for the annual event.
“Last year was cold, but the weather isn’t going to stop us,” said Vela.
The clean-up will begin at Edwin Atwood Park Access 5 with registration and refreshments from 8:30-9 a.m. followed by the clean-up from 9-11:30 a.m.
Last year, there were 30 volunteers that showed up despite the harsh winter conditions, and they managed to pick up nearly three quarters of a ton of trash.
“It was just so cold,” said Vela, “but we still had a lot of trash that was picked up.”
