Tourney brings in big catches

By JOE R. BOWLING, JR.

The South Padre Island Chamber of Commerce held their first annual Winter Texan Fishing Tournament this week on Tuesday. Several people showed up and brought in a variety of fish during the day.

“Everyone had a blast,” said Chamber President Roxane Guenzel, “the fish were being a little temperamental but the people fishing had a great day.”

The event was tabbed as a first and the turnout was a little smaller than expected but all in all the chamber was happy with the event. Happy enough that plans are in the works for a second next year.

“Oh yes,” said Guenzel, “we are looking at next year in January or February for sure. This year we may have been a little too close to Valentines Day and the cold weather last week may have affected the numbers but we had enough response from this one that we will look forward to year two.”
