In reaching goals in life it is never too early for success. Thus is the case for Port Isabel freshman Sara Mayes. Mayes, who competes in equestrian events, secured a $5,000 scholarship recently by beating out several other hopefuls.
Mayes has been riding horses for nearly three years and been in competition for the past two. She has traveled throughout the United States in competition including a national show at the Arizona Sun Circuit in Scottsdale, AZ where thousands attend on an annual basis. She is set to travel to the world’s largest horse show which takes place in Ohio in October.
Mayes competes in Western Pleasure, English and Reining. These are show competitions which require the rider to display control of the horse in various functions
