A shutout win over Rio Hondo Friday afternoon has led to the Port Isabel Lady Tarpons advancing to the playoffs for the first time in over eight years.
Head Coach Belinda Trevino was hoping that her team could make the run after they dropped a tough game to Laferia last week.
“We need to win two games to get in now,” said Trevino “and it’s not going to be easy.”
Easy or not the team did what they had to do. After a 16-0 win over Donna IDEA on Tuesday the team needed to clear one last hurdle as they traveled to Rio Hondo.
The game was scoreless through the first couple of innings before a single tally proved to be enough for another shutout by pitcher Daniela Salinas in a 1-0 win.
The playoff game is set for Friday night as the team will travel to Falfurias. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. in a one game set against West Oso.
