A Cameron County developer was charged with unlawful subdividing and leasing lots in Port Isabel on Wednesday, June 8, violating state colonia prevention laws.
According to state investigators, Phillip and Jeanine Watrous allegedly unlawfully subdivided a lot of less than one acre of land into multiple residential lots without going through the proper channels and receiving permission from the Cameron County Commissioners court.
The charge is stated as being failure to obtain plat approval from local officials.
