Developer charged with violating colonia laws

A Cameron County de­veloper was charged with unlawful subdividing and leasing lots in Port Isabel on Wednesday, June 8, violating state colonia prevention laws.

According to state inves­tigators, Phillip and Jeanine Watrous allegedly unlawfully subdivided a lot of less than one acre of land into multiple residential lots without going through the proper channels and receiving permission from the Cameron County Commissioners court.

The charge is stated as be­ing failure to obtain plat ap­proval from local officials.
