There was once a young boy who thought he was a fish. He would dive into the bay and stare in awe at the world beneath the waves. His mind’s eye would photograph each color and scene.

This boy has grown into a man who takes those scenes as well as others he has captured through his life and travels to paint pictures for the rest of the world to see.

Port Isabel native Joe Barrera has been painting since he was 14 years old. Since then he has moved around, but at the age of 58, he found himself being drawn back to his roots.
