The economic outlook for the summer is a sunny one baring bad weather, said Dan Quandt, executive director of the South Padre Island Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Despite the ups and downs of the economy, Quandt said, “I”m still thinking we are going to have a very good summer.”
Visitors from Mexico have yet to make their traditional visit to the area due to a change in the school calendar wherein students are beginning their summers three weeks later than normal. Visitors are still expected to come. Quandt said once they start coming to the Island, the numbers should spike more in the positive direction for local businesses.
