How best for a kid to spend a hot Rio Grande Valley summer?
Try forming a cool rock band, recording a CD and staging a live concert on South Padre Island to showcase your talent.
At least that’s what five local youth are doing as part of their enrollment in Rock Camp USA, a franchise of the original program formed at the Austin School of Music.
Brett Hill, 12, attended the original camp in Austin in 2009, enjoyed the experience and asked if Rock Camp USA could come to the Rio Grande Valley, where he lives. Dave Sebree, CEO of the Austin School of Music, agreed and the camp is now in its third year here.
