PadreRitaVille in South Padre Island has opened its doors with a new art form, fire dancing.
Two new female fire dancers, Aarin Hartwell and Dorothy Kumpe, entertained the crowds by firedancing with poi, a pair of arm-length chains with handles attached to one end and a bundle of wicking material on the other. Fire dancing is often performed to music and has been a traditional part of cultures from around the world.
Cathy Laferty, co-owner of PadreRitaVille with her husband Michael Laferty, said, “We wanted something new and cool at PadreRitaVille, fire dancing is a great art and people love it.”
