The City of South Padre Island and the Parks, Recreation and Beautification Committee (PRBC) are currently considering taking the first steps towards building a skate park for the youth of the community.

A subcommittee was formed at the PRBC meeting on Wednesday, July 20 with PRBC member Diane O’Leary heading it up.

“You see the kids out on the sidewalks … they need a place to skate,” O’Leary said. “There are only so many times you can go to the beach.”

Her co-board member Alex Grossman added, “I’m really excited for this skate park. You have to give the youth something more to do.”

The first step in the process of bringing a skate park to the area is finding the right location, and that is where the PRBC is at in their plan development thus far.
