The recent issue of the boardwalk connecting the Birding Center to the Convention Centre has been reopened by the county.

“This has been a 2 year discussion. The city council voted on a compromise that kept the long part of the original boardwalk over here and closing off the rest to the birding center,” said Dan Quandt of the South Padre Island Economic Development Corporation.

Since the City Council voted to separate the two boardwalks in May, the Birding Center side has had a usage charge while the original boardwalk on the Convention Center side has remained free and open to the public.
