Tropical Storm Don may not have brought the rain many had hoped for, but it did provide good surf for locals and visitors to enjoy with its own color show in the sky at the end of the day on Friday. (Staff photos by Scarlet O’Rourke)

The sudden coming and going of Tropical Storm Don left residents reasons to smile and frown over the weekend.

Through the storm brought some needed showers to alleviate some of the dust build-up and power problems caused by drought situations, the storm was rated by most to be far from making its quota for rainfall.

The rain came and went with little consequence to the coastal area, and less-so farther inland with only 0.52 inches of rain in Port Isabel-Laguna Vista and roughly 0.35-0.55 at South Padre Island, said Ryan Vipond, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
