One of the things South Padre Island is known for is the variety of businesses on its blocks, and when Padre Life Café opened on July 15, the Island got a bit more diversified.
Dinora Gonzalez has been a stay-at-home mother for her three children for years. As they grew, she kept snack-time healthy and creative. From these labors came the birth of her new café.
“I would make smoothies for my kids and my daughter liked the one we now call the Padre Life Smoothie and that’s their favorite, and she just told me I should open up a business and start selling healthy products,” Gonzalez said. “We just started trying to eat healthy so that’s where it all started.”
Some time later, she came to the Island during spring break with her family and, as they were exploring the boulevard, she realized that there were no raspa stands in the area. This was the final piece of inspiration she needed to open her business.
