LV awaits home rule charter

Special to the PRESS

Five months after Laguna Vista voters cast their ballots in favor of becoming a home rule charter city, officials here are still awaiting official designation of its status from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Voters adopted the proposed home rule charter in May with 481 people voting for and 266 voting against.

Since that time, the Town has exchanged correspondence with the Justice Department, working to provide documentation required before the official designation can be issued.
