October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the residents of Port Isabel and South Padre Island show their support by going pink.

Throughout the month, there have been many events supporting breast cancer awareness, such as the Walk for Women and Zumbathon. Port Isabel schools have also showed their support by incorporating their own walks. Throughout the month, many local residents and business will show their support by wearing pink. Though the month of October is reserved for breast cancer awareness, it is just not this month that individuals will see breast cancer awareness pink.

On Sept. 30, women and men around the Rio Grande Valley gathered in Port Isabel for the eighth Annual Walk for Women. The three-day event is hosted by Walk for Women, Inc. which is an organization initiated by local women to heighten breast cancer awareness and to raise money for the area residents affected by this disease and who are in need of financial assistance.
