Second readings of three notable ordinances will be considered when Laguna Vista Town Council members meet on Tuesday, Oct.18.
The short-term rentals of homes with an accompanying requirement that hotel occupancy taxes be collected and remitted to the Town, is one item to be considered for adoption by officials.
The ordinance would regulate the use by property owners of their homesteads as short-term (30 days or less) rentals, according to City Manager Rolando Vela. “State law … says that if you rent for 30 days or less, you are required to pay hotel occupancy tax of six percent, and sales tax of 8.26 percent. With this ordinance it would require that the property owner obtain a license from the Town to collect these taxes,” he added.
