Garbage ordinance left standing

Seasonal residents in Laguna Vista will have to comply with its garbage ordinance, but can request temporary discontinuation of service as an absentee owner.

Town officials Tuesday sought review and clarification of Ordinance 2007-31 that requires all property owners who have utility service to also have waste collection service, following an audit by Allied Waste Services that revealed 289 violators of Laguna Vista’s trash collection ordinance.

One exception exists in the ordinance, City Manager Rolando Vela said. “Seasonal residents (those who reside here only a portion of the year) are allowed to temporarily suspend their services, but are required to reinstate them upon their return,” he said.
