The City of Port Isabel along with the Museums of Port Isabel and the Port Isabel Economic Development Corporation team up to put on a day of festivities for the community. On Saturday, Oct. 29 the park behind the Museum of Port Isabel was full of tents, children in costumes and dancing to celebrate the Annual City of Port Isabel Community Street Dance.
The activities of the event included food and arts and crafts booths, a play by Gloria Bates called “Las Tres Lloronas,” costume contests and a live band performance.
One of the busiest booths was Lulu’s Menudo booth. Menudo is a traditional Mexican soup made with tripe in a clear broth and is served with lime, chopped onions and cilantro. While eating a bowl of menudo and interviewing the ladies of this booth, more than five people came for the steaming soup. Lulu Nunuz said of her soup, “It is a great soup to eat in winter and is also known to get rid of hangovers.”
