Certain responsibilities go along with participation in a team sport. These responsibilities include such basics as showing up on time for practice and always listening to the coaches. For senior team members there’s one additional responsibility; providing leadership. Those players in their final year of inter-scholastic competition are expected, by their maturity and experience, to help the younger players along and set an example.

Of the 12 players on the Port Isabel varsity basketball team, four are seniors; Alan Barrera, Dakota Torres, Roger Villarreal, and Jimbo Garza. It’s a good group, according to head Tarpon coach Al Senteno. Each of these senior players can provide the kind of leadership that Senteno looks for each season.
