Kayaking 101: Full finger or fingerless

Kayaking 101Good morning all, today’s topic… to wear gloves or not to wear gloves.

Well, I have always been someone to say that I wanted a nice pair of paddling gloves, but did I ever do it? No, for the longest time it just sat on the back burner. Customers would ask me how the brands of paddling gloves we sold here at the shop felt and if they were comfy for an entire day out on the water. Naturally, I would always say the same thing… I’m not much of a gloves kinda guy.

Well, that has changed, and I can honestly say that I went out and actually did it. I cleared the go ahead from the president of U.B. Captain (the wife), which I might add was not an easy task, took a pair down off the wall of our shop, and HELLO, went out sporting some awesome new gloves.

I do have to admit that for the longest time I didn’t bother thinking about it until I was out on the water, but I’m glad I did, it’s like something you go the longest time without and when you actually use them, it’s like wow. A good pair of gloves helps all around. Fatigue, grip, keeping your hands from getting sunburn and always being a shade darker of the rest of your body… but come on, my favorite part is they look really cool. Haha, OK, I’m kidding about the last one, but definitely I think I’m going to make these things a part of my everyday kayaking gear. Remember, it’s all about being comfy out there. Sometimes we forget about the little things, and consider this your reminder.

As Always, stay safe, always wear your P.F.D., and test your whistle every now and then. See you out on the water.
