Oklahoma-based art instructor Joy Willingham is bringing the popular craze known as “Wine & Canvas” oil painting classes to Port Isabel as she’ll lead a weekly class at Pirate’s Landing beginning Jan. 17 through Feb. 21.
The $180 registration fee will buy three hours of instruction time each Tuesday between 6-9 p.m. The class is limited to 10 students who will be admitted on a first come, first serve basis. Pirate’s Landing will offer house wines at $2 per glass. The registration fee does not include supplies.
Willingham said the class is geared toward all artists, from the novice to the intermediate, interested in learning more about oil painting techniques. “You will learn to paint with the techniques of the old masters like imprimatur a, chiaroscuro, and under-painting and complete emulation of Old Master’s Painting at each session,” Willingham explained.
She added that those attending the classes will have six paintings completed after each session on 16×20” canvases.
Willingham added that the “Wine & Canvas” moniker describes exactly what the classes are about. “’Wine & Canvas’ is a craze spreading around the United States for people that like to paint and drink wine with instruction. They can complete a 16×20” painting in one sitting.”
Willingham has a master’s degree and is a certified art teacher. Her wall murals and paintings are shown throughout the country. Learn more about her and her work by logging onto www.muralsbyjoy.com.
