Special to the Parade

Many local artists in the Laguna Madre Art League are preparing to show their original artwork at the Market Days on Jan. 20-22 at the South Padre Island Convention Centre.

Original paintings, jewelry, fiber art, glass art, prints and cards of original art work will be some of the art that will be in the show.

This sale is one of the largest displays of local art in the area. It is a chance for local residents and visitors to the Island to do some one-stop shopping for original art at reasonable prices.

Artists participating in this event include Cecilia Barnard, Duane Beard, Kathy Damalas, Norma Freeman, Sally Heath, Diane Hofmeister, Carol Jones, Lee King, Fern Kubalsky, Tom Leeman, Peggy Paris, Carol Plumb, Linda Stair, Carol Thorson and Voncille Zama.

The Laguna Madre Art League will also be selling raffle tickets for art work that is donated by the artists to support their artist scholarship fund.

Every year the League offers art scholarships to several graduating seniors at the Port Isabel High School with the money they earn from the raffle. The LMAL is a non-profit organization that has the primary objective of the League is to stimulate interest, appreciation and skill in the visual arts. Membership is open to everyone and applications will be available at the raffle table during the show.

The LMAL Art Show during both Market Days events (Jan. 20-23 and Feb. 24-26) is sponsored by El Paseo Arts Foundation.

The Art Show is located at the end of the main entry corridor of the SPI Convention Centre in rooms 1-4. The hours of the show are 9-5 each day.
