The Port Isabel boys and girls basketball teams took on Zapata Tuesday night in a home-and-away double-header. The Tarpons took care of the Hawks at home, 66-50, and the Lady Tarpons lost on the road, 48-34.
In Tarpon Gym, the home team led almost from start-to-finish. The Tarpons took an early 5-3 lead on a steal by Alan Barrera and a three-point bucket by Roger Villareal and did not trail again.
“We played hard,” Coach Senteno said in his office afterwards. “Our goal is to play good defense, and I thought we did that for three quarters.”
