dune restoration pic2Saturday saw the third dune restoration event of the planting season and the first of the New Year held by the City of South Padre Island and the Surfrider Foundation South Texas Chapter.

The 2011-2012 season is the second year of an aggressive effort by the Surfrider Foundation and SPI to restore lost dunes and expand existing ones in order to create a continuous dune line within the City of South Padre Island’s beaches that provide natural protection for property owners and infrastructure, provide habitat for local flora and fauna and naturally preserve the public beaches by providing dunes that will help them recover from large tidal and storm events.
