Lopez off to state powerlifting meet

PI-SP powerliftingBy the time you read this, Jerry Lopez, Port Isabel High’s state powerlifting qualifier, may already be in Abilene. That’s the location for this Saturday’s Men’s State Powerlifting meet.

It’s Lopez’s second straight trip to the state meet. He competes in the 114-pound class and was second in last year’s state competition.

“He knows more what to expect this time around,” head Tarpon lifting coach Justin Stumbaugh said Wednesday. “He’s well prepared. The goal is to go there and win.”
