Sandcastle Days revived

Sandcastle Days looks like it will live to see its 25th birthday after all, thanks in large part to a local business owner.

Clayton Brashear, owner of Clayton’s Beach Bar and Grill, approached the South Padre Island City Council and informed that he will host the event himself.

“I thought, ‘You know, this thing shouldn’t just die. It’s too big,’” said Brashear. “It’s exactly what a beach event should be.”

The new dates for the event are set for Oct. 5-6. It will take place at Clayton’s Beach Bar, the same location as last year. Brashear said by moving the event from the park to the northern part of the Island, people drive through the city, increasing the chances they’ll shop at the businesses they pass.
