Special to the PRESS
The public is invited to celebrate Dies Y Seis De Septiembre at 4 p.m. Saturday, September 15, at Washington Park located on Jefferson Street in Port Isabel.
The idea of having a “Pachanga in the Park” originated with a meeting by Mayor Joe E. Vega and commissioners about four years ago wanting to have a community family event that celebrates the Mexican culture and at the same time promote our park system.
The city will present a day of music, food, beverages, chalupa bingo and more. The festivity will include a chalupa making contest, a grito contest, dance contest, Mexican costume contest, a jalapeno eating contest, DJ and Live music, a presentation by the Derry Elementary Folklorico Dancers and lots of more fun activities.
