Freighter forced to drop anchor

PRESS Staff Report

A 600-foot freighter was forced to drop anchor in the Brownsville ship channel this morning.

Port of Brownsville Public Information Officer Manny Ortiz said the 600-foot vessel was having trouble with the steering mechanism which caused it to drop anchor.

The USCG was not able to respond to the distressed vessel because of its size.

Ortiz said two tug boats dragged the vessel to the dock safely.

No persons were injured during the incident.
