The Texas Transportation Commission Thursday approved the award of a grant to Cameron County to help fund a $600,000 project to provide design and construction of a new fuel system at Port Isabel-Cameron County Airport, State Representative Rene Oliveira announced.
The federal government will pay 75 percent of the cost, Cameron County will be responsible for 25 percent.
“Our airport traffic is increasing as Port Isabel and South Padre Island continue to grow. This grant will allow the airport to continue to modernize. As fuel costs increase, it is important to have the most efficient fueling facilities possible,” said Oliveira who is chairman of the House Committee on Land and Resource Management.
