There’s much about Tuesday’s ceremony to dedicate South Padre Island’s new fire station that, while fitting, also serves as an important reminder about the unequaled service firefighters dutifully conduct in cities throughout these United States.
Island officials, dignitaries and community members will recognize as much during a dedication ceremony for Fire Station No. 1, located at 106 W. Retama St., at 9 a.m. on September 11. Perhaps it’s fitting that the dedication will be held on the 11th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center towers in New York City and on the Pentagon, in which thousands of civilians and emergency responders such as police officers and firemen perished.
