Saturday was the 11th anniversary of the Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway collapse. Community leaders from Port Isabel and South Padre Island gathered at Port Isabel City Hall for a prayer and moment of silence to remember the victims of the accident.

Port Isabel officials presented an eight minute slideshow to better remember the incident and what the municipalities learned.

Port Isabel Mayor Joe E. Vega said the community is still recovering from the losses suffered, such as Fire Chief Bob Harrison.

South Padre Island City Councilman Sam Listi said the incident showed a tremendous cooperation between cities. He said the relationship between the cities grew stronger after the accident and continues to.
