A voluntary plastic bag ban is in effect for businesses in Laguna Vista through the end of 2012, when the ban will become mandatory.

Following the recommendations of the Town’s Environmental Committee, the ban chiefly affects the only retail shop here, the Stripes Convenience Store at the intersection of Hwy. 100 and Santa Isabella Blvd. (FM 510).

With only vocal support and no opposition, the measure easily sailed through two readings of the ordinance that makes the regulation a law.
