South Padre Island resident LaVida Williams had mixed feelings when a group of friends approached her with the idea for a benefit fundraiser in her name.
Being the person she is, Williams’ first thought was that there are people out there that are more in need, more worthy, of her friends’ generosity and concern.
After all, she figured, she was, in a sense, lucky. After sustaining a traumatic neck and back injury on July 4th of this year after diving, head first, off a boat and gravely misjudging the depth of the water below, she realizes that her injuries and prognosis could have been much more severe.
Still, the incident occurred during the heart of the summer season, the time of year in which Williams’ demand as a yoga and surfing instructor are at its peak.
