Bridge receiving attention from TxDOT

Special to the PRESS

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is planning for upcoming preventative maintenance on the Queen Isabella Memorial Bridge.

Bridge Engineer Rex Costley, with the TxDOT Pharr District, spoke before the South Padre Island City Council on September 19 to update the city on the planned preventative maintenance.

Costley said the seven-month project was scheduled to start October 17.

The maintenance includes work below and on the bridge, however lane closures will only be allowed from October 17 through March 1.

City council meetings are broadcast live online and archived for viewing.
