The City of Port Isabel is getting into the spirit of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by illuminating the Port Isabel lighthouse in pink. Mayor Joe E. Vega said this time of the year is important “for all to show support and donate time and funds to find a cure for breast cancer.” The mayor also called the lighthouse a Valley landmark that “symbolizes strength and perseverance in surviving trying times in history and its environment.” Illuminating the lighthouse pink, according to the mayor, demonstrates “hope for a cure.” The lighthouse will be shining pink for the entire month of October. Note that the Press and South Padre Parade are doing the same with its banners. (Staff photos by Ray Quiroga)
