The sandcastle masters have arrived and their creations are underway for South Padre Island’s 25th Annual Sandcastle Days, which is being celebrated at Clayton’s Beach Bar.
Local sandcastle master Amazin Walter said day one is about organizing the sand. He said building the sandcastles this weekend will take a total of 21 hours spread evenly throughout the next three days.
“I could use more time, but so can everyone else,” Walter said.
Walter added that sand has become his fourth career. He said he built his first sandcastle for hire in 1978 for the Texas State Executives Convention in Corpus Christi. He was asked by the same organization again 20 years later for their convention in San Antonio.
