THE BIKERS ARE COMING! Area readies for Bikefest this weekend

SPI BikeFestGet ready for four days of entertainment, food and fun at SPI BikeFest.

Thousands of bikers will mount their rides in this the 17th annual event packed with three days of food, merchandise and live entertainment at South Padre Island Convention Centre and Visitor’s Bureau, beginning Thursday, October 11 and ending Sunday the 14th.

Rally coordinators invest more than 1,000 hours each in meetings with staff, vendors, volunteers and city and county officials. And every year, the Town of South Padre Island pulls out all the stops to welcome SPI BikeFest participants to the Island.

“Our staff of more than 35 dedicated individuals worked more than 2,000 hours getting it together and running through every possible scenario to make this a memorable event,” BikeFest organizers said.

Amenities and festivities include more than 150 food and merchandise vendors at both sites open for 12 to 16 hours per day; 1500 feet of fencing to close in the Convention Centre location; five semi-tractor trailers of beer being served; 10 golf carts transporting attendees to and from the parking lots located off-site; eight bands performing at the Convention Centre throughout the weekend; two big rigs and tractor trailers full of equipment and supplies; ticket booths, tents and bleachers must be transported in for your use; and more than 10 laptops are networked to handle registration.
