The City of Port Isabel is taking preliminary measures to figure if annexing the Laguna Heights, a Census-designated place between Port Isabel and Laguna Vista, would be in the best interest of the city.
Laguna Heights is currently in between two extraterritorial jurisdictions. The Port Isabel and Laguna Vista ETJs meet at Roy Street, the center of the CDP.
Port Isabel City Manager Edward Meza said department heads are doing the necessary research to see what would need to be done to service the area properly. He said they want to make sure they have all the information before they take action on annexing formally.
