Bust nets 230 lbs of pot

policeLaw enforcement authorities with the Cameron County Constable Precinct 1 office removed 230 pounds of marijuana off the streets Wednesday while doing interdiction work out of Brownsville.

The officers trailed a speeding vehicle and made contact with two male subjects that were arrested for evading police officers. The men were both from Matamoros, Mexico.

In a subsequent vehicle inventory, 230 pounds of marijuana were found in black plastic bags. The street value of the bust is $184,000.

Both subjects were charged with evading arrest or detention with vehicle, a state jail felony, and possession of marijuana, a second degree felony.

Bond was set at $50,000 for possession of marijuana and $5,000 for the evading by Judge Benny Ochoa. The men were transported to the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center in Olmito.
