City targets strays

Special to the PRESS

An awareness campaign to alert dog owners to Laguna Vista’s leash law is underway here.

The campaign is a precursor to planned round-up of strays and unattended dogs roaming local neighborhoods.

“We are firmly committed to ensuring that pet owners are responsible in the care of their dogs,” said City Manager Rolando Vela. “We’re receiving complaints about dogs being permitted to roam loose in the morning and in the evenings. We are also receiving complaints of loose dogs posing a threat to others. To address this problem, we are initiating an awareness campaign to educate pet owners on the importance of keeping their dogs in a leash or in a backyard fence at all times. We are initiating this because we’re going to step up our efforts to pick up these loose dogs,” he said.
