BREAKING: 3,000 without power in PI, SPI

A power outage in the Port Isabel and South Padre Island area has affected as many as 3,000 people, said Frank Espinoza of American Electric Power.

Espinoza said the technicians are working on restoring power by sections. Espinoza said the outage occurred as a result of an equipment failure at an AEP Texas substation.

Power was returned to most customers by 11:15 a.m. However, the current number of customers without power remains unclear.
