The Point Isabel School Board met Tuesday for their regular monthly meeting. The Board recognized April as Autism Awareness Month and presented winners of the Autism T-shirt Design from each of the schools. An important topic during the meeting was discussion of the Delinquent Tax Attorney for the board and transparency in why the board has continued to renew his contract for many years rather than going with an alternative.

With no public comments during the open forum, the board moved to approve the consent agenda, which included the approval of Minutes for the meeting on March 17, approval of budget amendments and approval of travel for competitions, camps and senior trips.

With the 2014-2015 school year quickly coming to a close, the board approved the calendar for the 2015-2016 school year. Superintendent Dr. Lisa Garcia reported that next year, Spring Break will be one week throughout the state of Texas rather than split into two. However, March will still be a very busy month, as the Easter holiday falls in the month of March for 2016. The board approved a proclamation designating the week of May 4-8 as “Teacher Appreciation Week” with Tuesday, May 5 as “National Teacher Day.” After making the proclamation, Board Secretary Cecilia Castillo said, “I would like to add that teachers are the hardest working profession that I’ve ever known,” to which the audience responded with cheers and applause.
