Five candidates laid everything out in the open as they answered questions from South Padre Island residents ahead of the November election.

Incumbent Alita Bagley, Sally Scaman, Theresa Metty, Ron Pitcock and Paul Munarriz all sat for a panel discussion at the South Padre Island Convention Centre Thursday, Oct. 1 to answer questions which were submitted ahead of time.

With the Island’s economy relying almost entirely on tourism, many of the questions involved promoting the Island, City infrastructure, and short term rental properties.

The candidates agreed with each other on many questions, but differed in the details. For example, when asked if City funds should be used to improve the Laguna Madre shoreline, all five agreed that improvements are necessary.
