“It didn’t keep us from coming,” said Bayview resident Regina Taylor of the red tide as she and her husband, Larry, admired the sandcastles created during the 28th Annual Sandcastle Days.

“(The artists) came from all over the world,” she continued. “I think it’s amazing.”

The couple have been attending Sandcastle Days for eight years, they said. “Being amazed at what they can do with sand,” is what keeps them coming back, Regina said.

While tradition may be what spurs the Taylors to visit every year, this year marked the first time Sandra Lashly got to see the sand sculptures for herself. And like many of the sculptors, she, too, traveled a long distance to come to South Padre Island.
