One of the most creative and unique tourist attractions on South Padre Island is the Sandcastle Trail, where visitors can follow a map and view stunning and innovative permanent sandcastles located in front of various businesses and restaurants around town.

On Wednesday, Sept. 30, supporters of the trail and its creators gathered at the SPI Birding & Nature Center (BNC) to enjoy the first ever Sandcastlers’ Ball, with the goal being to raise money towards maintaining and expanding the sandcastles on the trail. The celebration was a joint community effort, with sand sculptor Lucinda Weirenga, local resident Sally Scaman and a host of other sculptors and volunteers donating their time and effort into making the ball an overwhelming success.
