The South Padre Island Historic Preservation Committee met Tuesday afternoon for their first meeting of the year. The group discussed a few projects over the last year, some of which they were able to start working on, while others have yet to be completed. Members hope to get projects moving along this year and are looking for volunteers to help keep the history alive.
With the 43rd birthday of the City of South Padre Island coming up on April 10, members are hoping to bring back Pirate Days for the celebration. In the early years of the town, locals held an annual, multi-day, celebration in April complete with live music, great food, story-telling, and of course, a pirate costume contest.
