The Port Isabel Tarpons hard-court men went to Hidalgo Tuesday night and took a 75-39 defeat in the 10th district game for both squads.
Port Isabel falls to 1-9 in District 32-4A play and is still seeking that elusive second district win. Hidalgo improves to 8-2 and is tied with La Feria for first place in the district.
P.I. head coach Anthony Velarde assessed his team’s overall play on this night; “I didn’t think we came out with the intensity early in the game that we needed to. For whatever reason we came out slow, and you start off slow against a good team, they’re going to take advantage of it and they did.”
Port Isabel trailed 17-5 at the end of the first quarter and 37-16 at the half. The Pirates were up, 54-27, at the start of the fourth quarter.
