It was a gold medal performance again for Omar Silva last week, only this time it was double gold. Silva swept the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles races at last Saturday’s Tarpon Relays.
This was the third track and field meet in as many weeks for Port Isabel and Silva has improved his results each week since the season’s first meet at Pharr three weeks ago. At the PSJA Winter Relays, on Feb. 13, he ran third in the 110 hurdles and second in the 300s. The following Saturday, at the Donna meet, he won the 110s and ran second in the 300s.
At Tarpon Stadium last Saturday Silva got the sweep and set a personal best time for the season in the 300s. The 110-meter hurdles went off first and Silva just managed to edge Weslaco’s Alex Cabagne at the line by 0.03 seconds with a winning time of 15.92 seconds. In the 300s the margin of victory was a more comfortable 0.65 seconds and his time of 40.40 seconds was a season’s personal best by more than a second.
